Healthy Schools Online Program

Empowering young people to make healthy choices for life.

The Healthy Schools Online Program is a practical nutrition education program designed to give secondary school students the knowledge, skills and hands-on experiences to build confidence with food and make informed, healthy choices for themselves.

Through engaging nutrition education and practical food-based learning, students explore the role nutrition plays in their physical and mental wellbeing, while developing food literacy and skills they can carry with them beyond the classroom.

Why food literacy matters

The foundations for lifelong food behaviours begin early. Giving young people the opportunity to understand food, nutrition and the role they play in health can help build the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to make informed choices.

Healthy Schools goes beyond simply teaching students what to eat. Through practical, engaging nutrition education, students build food literacy - developing the skills and understanding to navigate food choices with greater confidence, both now and into adulthood.

What The Healthy Schools Program Offers

  • Learning that Connects

Our program is designed to captivate the minds of secondary school students, utilizing interactive lessons, multimedia resources, and thought-provoking activities. From exploring the food groups to decoding nutritional labels, we inspire curiosity and foster a deep understanding of the vital connection between diet and overall health.

  • Physical and Mental Well-Being

Students explore how nutrition supports the body and brain, including the role of nutrients in energy, concentration and overall wellbeing. We also introduce the gut–brain connection in an age-appropriate way, helping students understand how food forms part of the bigger picture of physical and mental health.

  • Practical Skills for Real Life

Nutrition knowledge becomes more valuable when students know how to apply it. Healthy Schools develops practical food skills through real-world learning around meal planning, food preparation, budgeting and navigating everyday food choices.

The goal is to build students' confidence and capability with food, giving them practical skills they can carry beyond the classroom and into greater independence.

  • Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom

Healthy choices don't happen in isolation. Healthy Schools encourages students to take their learning beyond the classroom, creating opportunities for conversations about food and nutrition with their families and wider community.

By making nutrition practical and relevant to everyday life, we aim to help students connect what they learn at school with the food choices and experiences around them.

  • Building for Measurable Impact

As Healthy Schools grows, so does our commitment to understanding its impact.

We are working to strengthen the program's evaluation framework, with the goal of measuring outcomes such as student engagement, nutrition knowledge, food literacy and confidence in applying practical food skills.

This evidence will help us continue to refine the program and ensure future growth is informed by what creates meaningful value for students and schools.
